Welcome to the High Flyers HRC's Home Page

The club sprang to life in 1992 when a handful of duck hunters, trainers and just plain old retriever-lovers sat down together and decided to join forces and do something better for their retrievers. These charter members made the effort and commitment to train better gun dogs, breed healthy and sound animals, and just have some fun together with their dogs, families and friends. The club was incorporated in 1993 and is affiliated with the United Kennel Club, Inc. to advance the principles of the Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. Moreover, the club supports and protects the inherent rights to hunt and to own and bear arms. We promote conservation and management of game birds and wildlife and are involved with local and national sportsman's leagues and conservation organizations.
The High Flyers HRC is a strong family-orientated club. We actively educate and encourage youth to become involved in our sport. Club members and their dogs participate in several local Youth Days where girls and boys have the opportunity to see what a trained retriever does best, learn about responsible breeding and dog ownership, ask questions and even, with supervision, handle our dogs. In addition, the High Flyers annually host very popular Pheasant and Chukar Scrambles. In between, the club schedules monthly training sessions, holds fun hunts, seminars and workshops.
In the spring you will find us hosting our back-to-back licensed hunts complete with a super banquet and raffle. Come fall, when Western Pennsylvania's fall foliage is at its finest, the club holds annual licensed upland hunts. When we are all dressed up and not wearing camo, jeans and boots (or a few stray duck feathers), the membership gets together for a summer picnic and in December our Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet.
Our membership is diverse and active. Our versatile and talented Labs, Goldens, Tollers, Flat-Coats, and Chessies have earned multiple field titles and breed titles in the UKC, AKC, CKC and NAHRA. The Airedales in our club have earned versatile titles in the Airedale Terrier Club of America. The membership has a strong presence in the field, show ring, obedience and agility. Members and their retrievers make regular visits to local nursing homes, hospitals and schools where they leave behind smiles and paw prints on someone's heart. When the dogs are not involved in extra-curricular activities, they are well-traveled and hunt in some of the most beautiful states in the nation and provinces in Canada. Depending on the season, the club's retrievers work and hunt in Pennsylvania and Ohio, Arkansas and Louisiana, Texas, New York and Maine, the Dakotas, Saskatchewan, and the Chesapeake Bay of Maryland.
